FAQs

Why are we at IHR raising money for AFSP?

At IHR we do our best to give back to the community and use our platform to help raise awareness on topics we feel passionate about . Mental Health is a vital topic that our Community and Nation need to better understand so that we can help those in need. Partnering with organizations that focus on Mental Health to provide resources for those struggling, or resources for those with loved ones who are struggling, is something we at IHR fully believe in. We want to do what we can to help in any way, so if using our platform to help spread awareness and raise money is of help in any way, we are happy to do it!

What if I need help?

How can I donate?

Using the “Donate Here” button above you can donate to the “Project Hope and Optimism” team for the Out of the Darkness walk on September 7th in Indianapolis.
The AFSP accepts direct donations if you prefer to not donate to that team. The money is all going to the same place. To go directly to them for your donation, go here.

How can the donations help?

Your money goes directly to our local community here in Indiana. These funds allow AFSP to provide local Suicide Prevention outreach through their 20 educational programs, ensure continued support for those affected by the loss of a loved one to suicide through AFSP’s Loss and Healing programs, help fund research grants that will help doctors and scientists better understand suicide and help to prevent it, and also advocate for mental health legislation on the local level through State legislation.

How can I help someone in need?

One of the best ways to help someone asking for help is to listen. Follow these steps:

  1. Talk to them in private.

  2. Listen to their story

  3. Tell them you care about them

  4. Ask directly if they are thinking about suicide

  5. Encourage them to seek treatment or contact their doctor or therapist

  6. Avoid debating the value of life, minimizing their problems or giving advice

Assume you are the ONLY one they’re reaching out to!
You may call call or text 988 for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

How will my donation get to AFSP?

We are collecting donations directly through our IHR website during the month of April and will donate every penny of it to the Indiana Chapter of AFSP at the end of the month in one large check. You will receive a donation receipt in your e-mail once you donate. We are also selling Limited Edition IHR Suicide Awareness stickers for $10 each, with all proceeds going towards the donation at the end of April.

What if I’ve lost someone to suicide and I am struggling with the loss?

You are not alone. Suicide affects millions each year, and thanks to donors and volunteers—many of whom are loss survivors themselves—AFSP can provide these resources to help you heal: RESOURCES

Testimonial by Jayden Day

“Every person you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”

Jayden is an IndyHoodRats customer who has been inspirational to many in the automotive community. As a survivor of a suicide attempt, he is trying to spread awareness about the mental health struggles many face, and let people know they are not alone. Below, in his own words, is his story:
“I am very proud to say we hit a very big goal in donations and sticker sales for AFSP. I want to give a huge thanks to IHR and the car community for making this possible. We will continue collecting donations for AFSP through September 7th AFSP’s event “Indianapolis walk out of darkness” under our team “Project Hope and Optimism”. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Mental health is a vital part of our overall health and well-being. By working together to break the stigma, increase access to care, and promote mental wellness, we can create a world where everyone has the support they need to thrive. Remember, it’s okay to not be okay, but it’s not okay to stay that way. Let’s join hands to create a world where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health. I appreciate everyone again for working together to make my dreams come true.”
